Most new designs (and plenty of the older ones) are subpar, uninspired or outright ugly. The only reason why people generally accept them is because they have the label "pokemon" slapped on them.
If those designs -many of which don't even look like pokemon anymore, as they ditched any sort of consistency when it comes to proportions and artstyle- were from other games, most pokedrones would be calling them atrocious.
Pokémon is the biggest franchise BY FAR and there should be a team of highly talented artists behind it. It should've been improving every gen, but instead it's getting worse and worse and we get garbage like gholdengo. It blows my mind that such gargantuan franchise gets such abysmal designs. You can easily find fakemon artists making mons that blow the originals out of the water.
