8 was a mess before Crown Tundra. Toxapex was too strong, and Smogon was still pussyfooting around bans. By the time Crown Tundra released, the meta had settled and there was quite a variety of offensive teams to choose from. Rain, hyper offense, bulky offense, and even Hail were all viable. Melmetal probably should've been banned, though.
