It's funny that people blame Arvalis for the Detective Pikachu movie designs when they really had the opposite problem of his work. Arvalis bases his pokemon designs so heavily on real life animals that they often lose too much semblance to the original design. The movie, meanwhile, just slapped realistic fur and textures over the cartoonish proportions of Pokemon, often creating uncanny abominations.
