I remember in the Platinum guidebook there was a blurb mentioning that the rock formation in sunyshore city resembled a pokemon, which convinced me that if I could find some way to interact with it, I would encounter a unique pokemon (probably regirock because, well, duh)
This included such things as

Eventually when I got older I realized I was just a retard and it was meant to be either meowth or snorlax
A similar situation was a specific npc in the Valor Lakefront who mentions Lugia (likely to foreshadow HGSS). I had 2 DS systems and both games at the time, so I had the clever idea to catch one on the latter and trade it back to platinum and see if he gave any reaction to it in my party. Sadly he doesn't and his dialogue is still the same, which is a shame.
