I read up somewhere on the Pokemon site before the release of ORAS and it said that while Latios was larger and faster, Latias was smaller, slower but makes sharper turns. Not exactly a jet, but the Zero just sprung to mind. similar colour scheme and there has been some yellow varients in the past so I just thought it was fitting and creative enough. People won't see that though, Zero itself is just not creative.
