As the show reaches its end the runners' best final bet is to inflame the fans and catch some attention of normies one last time with the power of shipping to maximize visibility and cement a decent legacy of the show's conclusion for a bit more time after it's gone. It's quite clear nobody will give much of a shit about literal who Riko and her friend nobody even remembers. It's all about the final moments of glory.
