Marvel does it all the time and I'm fine with it because when they do it it's usually A DIFFERENT CHARACTER taking up the same title, and while Lucas is barely an actual character, (he's not even in pokemon masters so he has no written dialogue indicating any personality beyond a blank slate for you to insert yourself over) Dawn has been in the anime and PoMa for a while. It's gonna feel weird af.
The best solution, obviously, is to make more characters with different skin types, with customization to make them look like each other, but obviously that's too much effort for this cash grab piece of shit, so who am I to say that your player character's customization options should be limited just for external story reasons?
