>>35077947>VGC costs $40 nowThe fuck, is this real?
I went to VGC a couple times, it was a pretty fun event. Didn't get to participate, though. The first time I went, in 2009, the participants were randomly selected by number. Most of us who attended didn't get to participate, it was kinda lame. Had fun meeting people, though.
I went back again in 2010, with some friends. I was an idiot and didn't get in line in time, so again I didn't get to participate. Friend's little brother placed in juniors, though. It was amazing.
I didn't go back the next year, because they stopped giving out event Pokemon at regionals. That was a fucking mistake, as event Pokemon were the whole reason I even went to begin with. Then the year after that, they moved regionals away from my area, so I can't even go if I wanted to.
VGC can be a fun experience, but there's not much incentive to go these days. Especially if you gotta pay to get in.
It's also just not a good battle format. Most Pokemon players prefer single battles, and with good reason. It's the playstyle we're most familiar with, that the games themselves focus on. When you cut your teeth in singles, then have to go to doubles for the official format, it's a good deal disorienting, and keeping up with one competitive format is more than enough for most players.
The banlists are also fucking stupid, with no actual balance in mind. There is fucking nothing broken about any of the 600 BST mythicals, and even some of the box legendaries(base Kyurem in particular) are nothing banworthy. Meanwhile, you see the same standard double battle tactics most of the time, as the nature of double battles guts most of the traditional tactics and strategy that singles would have thanks to being limited to a team of four and the ability for your opponent to gang up on you. It's faster, sure, but it takes the fun out of the game for a lot of folks.
Really, though, it all boils down to the fact that doubles just isn't for everyone.
