What's your guys favorite Indigo League episode? Mines always been Holy Matrimony! Team Rocket has always been my favorite part of the anime, so having an episode focused on James was pretty cool.
Every-time I go back to the OS, either watching my set on my own or with younger siblings, I'm always reminded just how different it is. It's tonally much weirder than the rest of the franchise. Episodes like the Sabrina one or Tentacool and Tentacruel are just not something that would get made today because they are just so out there and not really consistent with the rest of the franchise. It's also much more unapologetically Japanese, something I didn't pick up on as kid, but I notice every-time I rewatch it. From Jessie and James dressing in banchou gear, background characters wearing hachimaki, and the occasional Japanese flag, it just feels so distinct compared to more recent series and their clearly fantastical setting.
I also love how funny the OS I think it's a genuinely great comedy, most of the jokes land and it has the prefect tone. Lighthearted traveling adventures with the occasional battle with stakes. Perfect tonally for Pokemon.
>>44140128Personally I find the dialogue charming and if 4kids continued to dub the later seasons I think I'd like them more. I'd rather watch people who are clearly having fun working on it than a stale dub, and no I'm not a dubfag, I fully admit to nostalgia keeping me from being able to watch it subbed. It and Yu-gi-oh are just to weird without the voices I grew up on.
As for filler, yeah it is formulaic, so is most anime aimed at children, at least it doesn't reuse as much animation as other shows aimed at the same demographic like Sailor Moon. The "lazy" animation is just that it's low budget, just like most seasons of the anime. OS is nowhere near the worst Pokemon has looked though and doesn't look worse than most other TV anime of the time.
