Face it, we're never getting the Pokemon game we want from Gamefreak. They're obsessed with aiming Pokemon at an extremely young mobile-oriented audience despite Pokemon fandom from investor reports and released polling data actually skews to Gen Y. (Hence why Pokemon commercials feature 25-30 year olds instead of kids and 24/7 KANTO).
If you want a Pokemon game with a better story mode, far better combat system, cut features returned along with a raft of new features, it's up to the Fandom to provide that. It's already happened with the series on a media level, people wanted a far better written Pokemon story and we got Festival of Champions from the fans which has gone on to be acclaimed by outlets, reviewers and fans alike. It's up to fans to take the reigns of the games as well and show Gamefreak what it really should be doing with the Franchise.
Yes we have had plenty of great romhacks and Pokemon SDK games, but I think what needs to be made is something actually next-gen, on a modern engine, that shows up GF in every meaningful way. Small teams put out amazing games all the time these days so it shouldn't be impossible.
