I think for me when it comes to JN, its just part of a larger problem with the general structure they been banking on for awhile now. I find it hard to even get attached to a character anymore when you know they are just going to leave, get replaced for the umpteenth time, then barely ever have return episodes.
I'm not saying brock should have stayed as a permanent traveling companion, but I kind of miss him and misty and may and dawn as at least characters that more frequently show up. Like sure brock and misty got 4 episodes during S&M, dawn got a decent chunk in JN, may sadly only gets cameos now because they haven't replaced her VA yet. Hell, I would like to see max grow up a bit more so he can actually be a pokemon trainer, so his experiences can play off of goh and chloe's.
It honestly feels alienating as someone who kept up with the series.
