>>42980064>which they delivered on by upgrading massively from BW's dumpster fire graphics.but when you actually stop and think about it, they really didn't.
the world design benefited a lot from higher resolutions both in textures and the console's display itself and you could fit some extra shit on the screen, but it was still the same old dull abstraction of the real world it's always been full of "cities" made of 10 shitty little tile buildings with magical expanding interiors, NPCs with no depth or purpose of existing other than as signposts reminding kids how to ride a bike or wash their foreskin for a stat boost or whatever.
battles remain the same boring snorefests they've always been, but instead of writhing masses of pixels violently shaking and shitting particle effects at each other it's reanimated corpses standing around and occasionally performing one of three different animations in the general direction of their opponent, nothing else has really changed and basically all they did was add a Z axis and better resolution to the sprites.
everything else is also pretty much the same. under the hood not much has changed, still shit tons of shallow RNG mechanics and cheap abstractions, the best example being the sorry state of your beloved pokemon, for which the sum of their actual personality and "individuality" beyond what you've personally contrived and projected upon them in your travels is still basically just a pair of unsigned 32-bit ints with some limp shit like characteristics layered on top of them to give the illusion that it's anything but a picture with some numbers attached to it.
it's shit, man. the old 2/2.5D sprite games were shit too, but unlike XY and SS they run on ass tier handhelds with less horsepower than an internet of shit egg timer.
