>>33641848I love Prism but it's a pretty flawed game. It suffers the same fate as a lot of ROMhacks, where the devs go crazy with "hey look what I do!" instead of cutting the fat and only including the best things they came up with. I think the minecraft mechanics are a good example of this; it doesn't add that much to the game, mining can be used for evolutionary stones and smelting can get you money for all your failed mining so those can be useful, but jewelling and crafting take so much money and time respectively to power-up that they're near-useless. If I remember correctly it cost SEVENTEEN Leaf Stones to level jewelling enough that you can make anything but the ring that required Leaf Stones. The "play as your Pokémon" section was really cool from a technical aspect but it amounts to nothing in teh grand scheme of things due to how small the single section of that was, and the 253 overworld sprites made for that single area (many of which can't be seen without backtracking to the area long after you did everything in it) don't really see use anywhere else in the game. Rijon also suffers massively from GSC Kanto's problems, but to be fair they were going to patch in more shit for Kanto before the C&D forced them to stop and leak what they have.
Prism's biggest strength in my opinion is its old-school design philosophy. The game doesn't hold your hand the whole way through and lets you explore at your own pace, the dungeons are long and force you to actually stock up on supplies (if you don't want to constantly backtrack like a faggot), and the game has actual spikes in difficulty, which contrary to what some think is a GOOD thing as it challenges the player and pushes them out of their comfort zone. The graphics and music both fit in really well with GSC and come off as very well polished.
Overall, I'm not sure if Prism is as good as the best games in the series, but it was my favorite Pokémon game, fanmade or official, since the start of the 3DS era.
