It's pretty amazing that Galar is a region with absolutely no legacy, the most impact it had on the series was being the generation that introduced dexcut and therefore the thing split the Pokemon fanbase in half permanently and arguably changed the nature of discussing games online as a whole by exposing just how many people are willing to defend multibillion dollar companies.
But the region of Galar and Sword and Shield themselves? What can you even say about it in current year? Horrible plot, first games with forced EXP share, bad Pokedex, no standout characters, games peaked at a just barely okay DLC, gameplay mechanics done better by PLA and SV, anime wasn't even ABOUT Galar, shit man.
Legitimately, by this point in time you'd have people easing up on games that were pretty roughly received, people remember XY as the games with great online and ORAS as...the remakes that were better than BDSP (also gen 8 btw), BW has it's cult following and staunch defenders, Gen 7 still gets plenty of (coom) art with its characters and story fondly remembered.
What does Galar have? Kantooo jokes? Dynamax, which was dropped after a single game, replaced by the much better received Terastallize mechanic and mogged by Mega Evolution in terms of popularity and franchise relevance? You don't even have people on twitter going "uhhmmmmm actually SWSH was kinda fire doeee  :100:" because it wasn't, it was ugly and unfinished and the best thing you can say about it was that it spooked Gamefreak into giving Pokemon turning animations for PLA.
You could legitimately do a case study on how this gen failed at absolutely everything in the most robust way possible. I fully expect 8 hour long youtube essays on how Sword and Shield, Let's Go Pikachu&Eevee and BDSP were by far the lowest point of the Pokemon franchise on a critical and practical standpoint.
Just pitiful, truly the Sonic 06 of Pokemon.
