Treecko on the other hand has a fucking leaf for a tail, and is green. It is very obviously a grass type. That said, Pokemon don't have to immediately convey their type, but they DO have to have a reasonable connection to that type, unless they have a thematic reason not to.
Sundog at the very least has the stalagmite collar that relates it to rock, and a brown color scheme. Moondog has literally NO rock features, putting it with Lucario in the list of fucking awful designs that look nothing like their type, and have no visible or thematic connection to it.
