Dark was still a possibility, but there was a higher chance of Rock or Steel if anything, seeing Rollout on its moveset and the only things knights and shit share in common thematically being armor.
Hell, Masuda even said the starters would make us think of old time typical RPGs, and if Final Fantasy already did Dark Knight (along with a badass fighting Ninja) in one of their earliest games, it's not that far of a stretch considering Quadillion doesn't look fit to fight anything at all.
