Of course the difference is that in the game you press A and B in a turn based setting, whereas Ash is training and bonding with monsters for real and fighting in a real time physical environment, and by that standard he is a very good trainer, as we see in the show. He doesn't win as easily as you because obviously what he's doing is a lot fuckin harder than what you're doing, i.e. playing a video game.
