The point is, her mom never being brought up at all, even from a slight mention from her dad, brother, or even Lana, makes the entire thing already feel forced and random. And even in the video games, her mom is alive, so it seems even more like the writers threw a dead mom in there for dramatic effect.
Also, her being at peace with her mom was even more half assed because never was there a time where Mallow showed a hint of doubt or inner pain about something in her past. Like you said, she literally forgot about the whole thing until Gladion, of all people, brought up the fact that Tapu Fini can let you see dead people. Sure you can say she suppressed the memory because it was so bad, but that’s not actually what happened in-universe, thus its headcanon, and just you trying to handle the entire moment better than the writers did, i.e applying nonexistent weight, something that you SM fans do constantly.
And the Shaymin excuse is bullshit because it is also never addressed. People acknowledge that Mallow has a Shaymin but whenever it’s question HOW she got it just says “oh lol it joined me until it learns how to fly”
