There are a few little features already added though, such as being able to put smaller Pokémon on your shoulder and they will give you buffs (Wooper gives water breathing, Pichu gives you speed etc.), and some Pokémon replace the ambient vanilla mobs (you can shear Wooloo to get wool, milk Miltank to get milk etc.).
They plan to add Gyms and all that as well, but in a way that it is better implemented than Pixelmon, so likely only one badge per type to avoid the disgustingly bad item bloat problem Pixelmon has. Another planned feature is using your Pokémon to fight hostile mobs, which will help to make the Pokémon feel part of the game rather than just slapped on on top.
A lot of the dev team for Cobblemon is ex-devs from Pixelmon who weren't happy with the way Pixelmon was ran/the mod itself, so I have high hopes for this mod.
