>>56023117The idea that bans are a bad thing is silly. Smogon has been doing bans since day 1. That's why tiers exist. You cannot use Skarmory in Gen 3 UU, the first gen Smogon was around. Skarmory was, in fact, banned from UU. Everyone thought it was a great idea, since banning Skarmory from Gen 3 UU meant Pokemon like Kangaskhan, Stantler, Meganium, Mantine, Altaria, and Fearow could find a niche. If you wanted to play with your favorites, you could choose the applicable tier where the Pokemon that outclassed/shut down your favorites were banned.
This same mentality carries over to this day. If you want to use Mega Mewtwo V(Flutter Mane), you can use it in Ubers alongside Miraidon and Arceus. If you want to play with weaker Pokemon like Meowscarada, Darkrai, Zamazenta, and Deoxys-Speed, you can play OU.
