However, I think the anons who were discussing the latter are focusing on the wrong thing: its not amour thats the problem(they could just give it a blush and the shipperfags would be happy), but rather the balance of her overall character.
Her arc felt complete. It wasn’t really something that needs to be elaborated on further, like Lillie for example. In fact, unless it’s a superficial return, in all likelihood Yonemura would actually make her character worse. And I think a lot of people would be disappointed in a superficial return, just as any Dawnfag who wasn’t absolutely delusional was. Don’t get me wrong, it was a fun and decent episode, but did next to nothing for Dawn’s character and we got no sense of her growth since BW...we didn’t even see if her other mons evolved, which is a textbook example of growth.
I rambled a bit, but the point is that you could replace Dawn with any COTD and the episode would roughly be the same. If they did this with Serena, there would be an uproar. Serena, like her or not, is a character that a large portion of the “active fanbase”(not the target kodomo audience, but the online presence behind the 600k twitter followers) is emotionally invested in one way or another. She’s arguably the most popular poke girl among the modern fanbase as well.
If Tomiyasu and Kato are serious about bringing back as many characters as possible, they will surely touch on her in one way or another. Whether its Tracey-tier or Dawn-tier though remains to be seen.
