Even so, it was Hoenn that hooked me the most. The reason is I think, that there simply isn't that much to do in Gen1 and 2. Although good games in their own right, once the credits roll that is pretty much it. Hoenn was the first generation that felt like you could keep playing long after the story was over, with Trainer Stars, easier trainer rematches, Contests and Battle Tower.
Even though I lived through the peak of the craze and had books and plushies etc, Gen1 and 2 were always missing something the series needed before it became that 200+ hour type of game. Ruby and Sapphire (Gen3) were those games for me.
