And it's not fucking rare, you get the dome fossil in the very next cave, it just takes you a while to be able to do anything with it. The dome fossil is canonically present around the area and why wouldn't this rock type specialist with ties to the museum and the other gym leaders be able to revive it? It's a neat thing. And it doesn't tell you its evolution.
