They continued to use them for years and years, even on fancy new hardware.
The only thing that changed were the textures, because the N64 just couldn't handle them.
Future proof doesn't mean it lasts forever, just that it resists change. It's been almost 20 years since Stadium came out, so obviously they wouldn't last THAT long.
