>>28891723What helps me the most with Gen I and II are the primitive graphics. Yeah, they were even made fun of in 1996, but the lack of detail really leaves a lot up to the imagination. I can picture the locations as if the player character had a first-person view because it's like your mind is filling in the gaps. It's kinda like with pic related. Gen III (including FRLG) look better graphically, but they don't really leave anything up to the imagination. Like if they put Natural Park into a GBA Pokémon game, I don't think I'd like it as much.
On the other hand, I think Gen IV and V's graphics get to the point where they're good enough to stand on their own, though there are weaker areas.
