>>55816159>Special SplitNeeded to happen. Having a combined offensive and defensive stat for Special meant that basically all Pokémon needed to have a good Special stat or just be garbage. Even tho a lot of the food Gen 1 mons were Physical, they all also had decent Special stats
>Physical/Special Split I can just also needed to happen because it's far more intuitive and ultimately saved more Pokémon than it hurt. It only got better once more moves and abilities were introduced as well. Having each type be aligned to a specific offensive stat overall was ultimately a poor design choice in the first place because it meant many Pokémon were not running their STAB, but now obviously they can
>AbilitiesI'm going to be controversial and say I think these were a bad choice. I think the system is very limited the way that they implemented it and his resulted in the current problem we have now where new abilities do so many things at once just to help Pokémon stay relevant, competitive, or have a gimmick. I think the concept of abilities needs to be broken apart into multiple different facets of a Pokémon, like giving them passives or innate characteristics instead and making the gimmick abilities just part of the Pokémon's natural mechanics
>Dark/Steel Types I think this needed to happen. Thematically these types introduced a lot of different design concepts that technically could have been implemented before but would not have been fully realized prior to the addition of these two types. I would say however though that they definitely need tweaking now that we are several generations out and it's a little bit more evident that the type chart is showing its age in some ways.
>Fairy Type Ultimately a net positive. I don't like that it's fully immune to Dragon, but what are you going to do? I think it definitely needs some tweaking still, but the entire type chart does at some level as well.
