Lets be real for a second
6th gen by far has had the most smooth core gameplay design thus far, more pokemon have come into the spotlight due to a focus towards VGC and EV/IV training being more streamlined makes the competitive scene just that much more interesting.
And this is where the development time went.
With ORAS they shown they could really do a game from beginning to end in the style they wanted if they have a good core gameplay to work off of, which 6th gen has offered, and lets be honest, every generations first two titles are pretty meh compared to the final version (Yellow, crystal, emerald, platinum) and hell, 4th gen was pretty bad all around compared to HG/SS
This gen brought it a lot of new mechanics, namely megas and significantly more hidden abilities that had to be playtested, lets hope next gen will get more production time.
