>>45568898It's a little fae creature wearing a dress made out of witch's hair that takes the shape of both a witch and a princess (the "hat" has the wide brim and cone of a Witch hat and the point and 'tail' of a princess cap). It uses the powers granted to it by it's hair to take on a shape that lets it appear more human, but it's still unmistakably alien and creepy. It has a odd, surreal feeling to it that makes it look like it came straight out of a dream, not unlike Shiinotic. It's honestly the most fae pokemon that exists and the greatest embodiment of the type, to the point where I don't really think Hatterene could really work if the fairy type wasn't made. It's the perfect example of a fairy pokemon. It's every classic fairy tale and fae story rolled up into one big package.
Gardevoir, by comparison, is more or less very on-the-nose: it's a ballroom dancer with elements of paper dolls/charms and a hint of a guardian angel. It's not awful, and I'd still rank it highly among the Gen 3 roster in general, but it's merely "ok". There's just nothing special about it: it's just a humanoid figure in a "dress". Not having anything more substantial or interesting to it doesn't make it bad, but I do think in the end Hatterene is a superior pokemon in terms of concept, design, and execution.
