Also Golden Sun is borderline (I think?) and the Bomberman Max games have collectable monsters that you can ride and train in the main game then battle in multiplayer. Medabots has been going on (in Japan) as long as Pokemon and continues to get entries to this day, the GB Dragon Warrior Monster games got/are getting remakes on the 3DS that we'll never see, same with the new Digimon World.
But back to Bomberman. Pommy is my favorite Pikachu ripoff to this day and I love it more than many Pokemon.
Anyway, is there a list of all the Pokemon clones that there have ever been? I get the feeling GB/GBA had the most (before most people realized it was hopeless to try to imitate it), but I might be wrong.
