I didn't really consider Magmar one of my favourite Pokemon until a year or so ago, but as a kid I really enjoyed the Cinnabar gym episodes.
I think Magmar has a really cool design, like an actual monster. I like how it's a chimera of multiple animals, as well as the Japanese Karura. It learns lots of great special and physical moves, and although Magmortar is stronger, it's still perfectly usable, even if it's not the best competitively.
>>12778694Lopunny is another personal favourite of mine. I initially likened its design to a mammalian Blaziken, and used it in my very first play-through of Pearl. I've never been disappointed with it, despite it's erratic stat placement. Also, Klutz and Switcheroo is very cool.
