>>36620153You're still limited to one pokemon. So unless you spam full heals like a shitter, you're fucked if you get any kind of status ailment. (and you will eventually.) You also don't have the luxury of switching out (unless you're a shitter) to remove status nerfs. Coverage is much more important than it would be in a run with a full party, where having a good utility move like toxic or swords dance forces you to sacrifice a slot that would otherwise hold a coverage move, and you can't counter everything, there's always going to be a pokemon that takes resistant damage from all your moves. There's also just things that will end your battle right there, like explosion pre-gen V, any high powered move that hits you for super effective damage, or even just shit like the screens. There's also the fact that pretty much every time you fail to OHKO an enemy (which you will) you're going to get worn down by damage/status. Also it's pretty hard early game where you don't have much of a level advantage over your opponent or any EV's to boost your stats, as well as not having access to coverage moves.
