It was either Pokemon Snap or a blockbuster rental of Pokemon Stadium. My first played mainline title was one of the gameboy Pokemon games a kid brought to my school in the 4th grade that I only played for like a minute or two in which I accidentally ended up overwriting his save by starting a new game. Many years of purchased spinoffs games and emulated roms later, Pokemon Shield is the first mainline title that I actually acquired and played legally.
