Canalave Barry was rough. I always accidentally run across the bridge and trigger the fight because I'm dumb. I was a bit underleveled but luckily Barry's team didn't have custom sets so Rhyhorn could wall Rapidash and such. Now that we finally have access to Iron Island I can hypergrind Empoleon while Exp. Share grinding everything else.
Also Piplup has officially been a disappointment up until evolving into Empoleon and getting Surf which coincidentally happened around the same time.

Alternatively, I haven't used my Old Chateau catch and I've been thinking of replacing Pachirisu with Rotom for a long time. Pretty much the only reason I'm keeping Pachi around is for hipster cred.

All the Surf routes have the same goddamned encounters and the most interesting encounters are in Victory Road which is mostly a Granite Cave retread and Sky Pillar, a whopping 2 locations. You can find unique water types too like Staryu but they're so rare they basically don't count.
