Kukui and Ash still need to fight, that will happen at some point. Whether its as Kukui as the final boss or not I don't know and realistically I know that they won't go and have Kukui be champion, all I was talking about was a potential scenario if a League isn't introduced and the anime decided to follow the games story.
As for the Gyms and League conference in SM, I never said anything about him competing in those. I only said that I hoped we would see the buildings being constructed or getting ready to be built.
