The entirety of our existence is predicated on a tier system. Everything you ever encounter is subconsciously or otherwise part of an objective network of tier relationships. If you don't acknowledge the rankings things like food, entertainment, your friends in a tier system, you have been excluded from one of the most important and defining philosophies of are time. Applying this characteristic to Pokemon competitive play is merely a way to engage with the zeitgeist - we live in a tiered world, and if you reject that, you are in the shit tier and Smogon users are themselves the ubers.
