In Dreams version, it embodies the creation and shaping of the land and the birthing of life within it. In Nightmares version, it embodies sickness, weakness and the return to the earth that must one day come to us all.
Similarly, the story line examines whether humans' arrival in Astra from the Galar region was a boon or a bane for the region and the previously undisturbed Pokémon ecosystem. Humans brought with them a lot of Galarian culture, such as dynamaxing and battling leagues (structured here like the Australian Football League). Also, imported Pokémon and urban development noticeably impacted the Pokémon distribution.
The villainous group feels that humans exploit Pokémon for their own entertainment and that Pokémon would be better off had humans never come to Astra in the first place. To that end, they stage protests and pitch invasions during each major city's round robin derbies while seeking to awaken the Rainbow Serpent to either remake the region in its original image or to bring on the collapse of human society, thereby returning Astra to its previous state.
