It’s about taking all the evidence you have available and coming to the best conclusion you can. This process has lead to creation of shit that the world is basically dependent on now, whether anyone likes it or not it has been incredibly effective at letting us accurately understand exactly how the universe works. The problem is just that, in the eyes of someone who doesn’t practice science, it’s just a bunch of dudes who DO practice telling them what is and isn’t true, which leads to seeing it as a religion. In reality the difference between the 2 is obvious: anyone who simply believes what other scientists say and does no research themselves is by definition, not a scientist. However someone who believes everything that religious authorities tell them is indeed a member of that religion.
