If I'm still uncertain after too long, I'll look through the Pokedex to see if there are any good candidates I haven't caught yet. Usually what ends up happening is I get surprised I don't have X mon yet, and start over planning a new team around them.
When I catch new pokemon they of course have to have the right ability, nature, sometimes gender, and have to be in the right ball. Then I have to train them so they're not dead weight, since the rest of the team is likely lv 60-70+
Then I'll finally go do whatever it is I wanted to do in the first place, which usually takes like 10 minutes. Somehow I find all of this fun, and it makes me really wish there was more to do after the E4 in Gen 6 games so I could experiment some more without having to start a new file
