When this happens, talk the group into splitting into two. Tell them in two groups of 4 every single person will be getting more balls than in one group of 8 because of individual damage bonuses. That's not even a lie. And when this happens... sneakily have all the Instincts be in the same group.
Bam, you go from +1 damage +0 team to +2 damage +2 team.
