Emerald defiantly has its pros over ORAS, but it's worth mentioning that some things were improved upon in the remakes.
>Better rival who was more involved with the player
>Aqua and Magma are more distinct from each other and no longer feel like the exact same team with a pallet and some text swap.
>Better use of secret bases which are more or less a customisable join avenue.
>Being able to fly to routes individually, which goes hand in hand with berry picking and base hunting
>Surfing has been improved tenfold with a cutback in encounter rates as well as the option to move faster with Sharpedo.
>Improved soundtrack
>Elite Four rematches
Note: This does not excuse the lack of gym leader rematches, but it is still worth mentioning.
>Kanto and Jhoto Pokemon are easier to obtain and no loner require the use of separate games to obtain.
>Dex Nav makes it easier for players to catch Pokemon with their preferred abilities.
>Moves learned via level up have been improved for all Pokemon
One example I found was for Aron. In Emerald his only stab moves before evolving was the unimpressive metal claw and the inaccurate Iron Tail. In ORAS he not only received the more reliable Iron Head but also two moves that benefit from its Rock Stab, something it didn't even have one of in Emerald.
>Deoxys is no longer event only
>Stones are more accessible thanks to Super Training.
I know this is a carry over from XY, but I've learned to appreciate it when I recently found out that I couldn't evolve my Lombre until exploring the Abondend Ship with Dive, which isn't obtained until 7 gyms into Emerald.
And this is without mentioning the obvious Physical/Special split, or the use of endless TMs.
Now, does all this mean that ORAS is immediately better? No, because it is obvious that there are quite a few things that were handled like shit in these games. But to immediately claim that everything in Emerald is better is just as foolish as claiming that everything in ORAS is better.
