Also its good to use sources like Smogon as tools and supplements, rather than taking their word as law and just slapping together the 6 most OU mons like a lot of beginning players do. You have to learn WHY something is popular and HOW it's effective, and then if you choose not to use it then how to prepare for it.
Also if you plan on going outside of simulators, don't EVER shy away from what people would consider "cheap tactics" since VGC/ingame rules have no clauses outside of no same items and no same pokemon.
Evasion boosting/accuraccy dropping hax is frowned upon in many circles but in my opinion its just simply a riskier way to play since you are ultimately devoting most of your strategy to chance. The same thing can also apply to Sleep spamming but more reliable.
