I would probably wait a little longer before deciding to buy SV, it looks fun so far but we have no idea how difficult it will be if you like a challenge in the story. I am pretty hesitant at the moment since SwSh was very barebones and had no aftergame battle facility, and basically no post game at all unless you paid for DLC. As for gimmicks it's a weird crystal thing that lets you change the type of your pokemon in battle as another anon mentioned. Sorry if it's not super helpful but I think it's too early to give you a definitive answer.
