Ok guys try to picture this:
>ROMhack of some sort
>doesn't randomise pokemon types, moves, stats and abilities
>instead each pokemon species has a broad selection of type combinations, moves, stat distributions and abilities
>when you encounter a new pokemon, its characteristics are randomly picked from these
>each pokemon thus has a variety of potential characteristics that aren't too ill-fitting and are unlikely to make them OP or useless
For example, nidoking would be able to get any combination of the following types, or just one of them:
>Dark/Poison/Steel/Rock/Ground
As off the top of my head those types suit it the most.
Then it would have the usual abilities available with about 5 more thrown in.
Moves wise, its potential moveset would include moves from the types previously mentioned and expand the potential moves to about four times those available to nidoking. Out of those moves, the move slots nidoking traditionally has would be filled largely at random.
Does this make sense? Is it a good idea? I thought it'd introduce a greater amount of estimation and luck into trainer/pokemon encounters, without making it ridiculous.
