The entire game is focused on bait and switches and it's easy to say especially in the most popular iteration scarlet version the dinosaur/prehistoric version that "oh it's just a time machine that brought things forward from the past" where as the less purchased violet robot/future version is "oh its just a time machine that brought things back from the future. More and more evidence in game points towards conscious desire affecting reality in the space where this is happening. It's a very fromsoft approach for a pokemon game.
