We don't know what Lysandre did during those last few moments before the HQ collapsed.
I'm not saying it's unreasonable to think that he stayed down there and killed himself, just that there's no concrete evidence. That's why I'm anxious for Z/XY2 to confirm his true fate or if it's something they want to leave to the player's imagination.
