Now that I think of it, Hilda in Gen 5 is the first Pokegirl that didn't appear in the anime (Leaf didn't exist in Pokemon Red the game itself so there was no reason to shill her), the Gen 2 girls both got Ashnime appearances, pretty major ones at that, May, and Dawn were companions. I wonder why Hilda didn't even get a cameo at the Unova league or sth. Serena was also a companion, and then Chicken and Scottishgirl wouldn't really fit into the postXY style of the anime.
