Discuss your hot takes on the mechanics of battling.
I'll start: Critical hits and by extension damage rolls get a lot of hate for being uncompetitive, but they are necessary to keep the game fresh and fun. Without them, the game quickly turns into a chess match with the same plays, and same outcomes every time which inevitably ends up getting repetitive and stale.
Critical hits only truly feel undeserved when a bad player relies on them as a strategy; a good player would strategize knowing critical hits aren't worth playing around and therefore when they score a necessary critical hit, it's far easier to accept that it happened as they didn't need one at team preview. With that in mind, there is also skill expression to be had in recovering from being taken out of the comfort zone of predictability by surprise misfortune.
This isn't to justify accuracy checks by virtue of having rng in common, as those strictly punish the player for being unlucky. Likewise, the status rng as it is permanent without a cleric to heal it away.
