If you feel that a certain song or video is too loud, you can make the sound emitting from your speakers or headset lower by clicking on this symbol, and sliding it down.
Alternatively, you can also press 'fn' and then press one of the 'f' keys (f1 - f12) that has the symbol of lowering your computer volume.
If you are on a tablet or phone, there should be buttons on the side which you can press to make the volume louder or lower, respectively.
