Why is it assumed that SatoGo shippers MUST be gay? I'm straight and I enjoy that pairing. I think, if anything, the implication that fictional pairings are only ever enjoyed vicariously through one of the characters casts a shadow on the intent and reasoning of most shippers. If you're just shipping the protagonist with whoever you happen to be the most attracted to, you might be picking someone for him that doesn't fit.
That being said, shipping in Pokemon is kind of a silly game. Nothing will ever be confirmed. Misty got her light hints, Dawn got her pizza commercial, Serena got her entire crush storyline, and Goh gets aggressive homo marketing in magazines. They'll all depart eventually and the cycle will continue.
