Honestly I think a lot of the bugs between Kanto and Johto are mixed up. The obvious is Venonat and Butterfree, but I think at some point Venomth was suppose to be the evolved version of Paras. The two have very similar eyes and Paras mouth looks alot like Venomoths apenddages. I think maybe both Venomoth and Parasect were made as possible evolutions for Paras and Parasect just fit better. Also I feel like Weedle and Caterpie's final evolutions were suppose to be Pinsir and Heracross respectively. It would make sense that a japanese game about fighting critters would of had beetles that japanese actually have fight for sport in it. It would also make more sense having the Caterpie and Weedle lines being rivals like that.
